Battleground Cigar presents: The Widow's Son Cigar!
![]() | About the cigar ...The Widow's Son Cigar is a Masonic-themed cigar within the "Battleground" cigar line offered by The Connecticut Valley Tobacconist in Enfield, Connecticut and is the result of a private collaboration between The Connecticut Valley Tobacconist and a small number of Freemasons who frequent the shop. The Widow's Son cigar is not affiliated with The Widow's Sons Masonic Motorcycle Association or any other Masonic body. What's new ...We are now accepting orders for the Widow's Son Cigar! The cigar was officially launched at a fund-raising dinner on Friday, October 19th, 2012. Our turnout for this event was less than we hoped for, but we still raised a good sum for the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory! The Review At first glance, the cigar is handsome with a medium to dark brown wrapper and a good feeling between the fingers. This is a premium cigar and the expectation is for a robust flavor with a rich earthy tobacco odor. Bringing the wrapper to the nose, one is surprised by a sweeter aroma coming from the pressed Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper and the expectations of the smoker begin to shift. Upon lighting, the taste is instantly recognized as sweeter than most robust cigars with a hint of white pepper spice. As the first third begins, the smoothness of this blend is immediately apparent. The taste of cocoa or chocolate is detected with a creamy finish that lingers just long enough. As the second third is enjoyed, the smoothness continues with the white pepper subtly present. The cocoa/chocolate flavor becomes fuller and is accompanied by a sweet taste reminiscent of leather. Occasionally, the flavor of Oak is detected. The room smoke contains these aromas as well and is commented on by smokers and non nearby. The final third continues to produce the same results with an occasional floral or citrus hint in the room smoke. The cigar is smooth and enjoyable right to the fingers and smokes like a medium-bodied roll despite its robust appearance, effectively bridging the gap between those who prefer one or the other. - Hiram | ![]() |
